Pedro Skvarca received a degree in Geodesy-Geophysics from Buenos Aires University and started the research in glaciology almost fourty years ago started at Instituto Antártico Argentino (IAA). He studied in 1974 at Scott Polar Research Institute (SPRI), UK, with field training in Tarfala, Sweden, Chamonix, France, and Antarctica. In 1978 he was appointed Head of Glaciology Division at IAA. His present scientific research is focused on glacier dynamics, processes and mechanisms of glacier variation, mass-balance, remote sensing and impact of climatic change on ice-masses. He participated in numerous scientific expeditions to the Antarctic as well as to glaciers of Southern Patagonia Icefield, within the frame of the national and joint international research projects carried out with scientists from Austria, Chile, Germany, Japan, UK and USA. He published more than 50 indexed papers in scientific journals.
